This guide and video will show you how to customize the breathing pattern of the Sleep Sensei and choose between profiles. It is recommended for those who have already gone through the quick start guide.
Choosing a profile
The Sleep Sensei has 4 profiles that you can choose between when you first turn the device on. This is indicated by the number of times the lights flash between pauses (watch the video above for clarification). You can cycle through the 4 profiles by pressing the button. After profile 4, the Sleep Sensei will turn off.
Each profile has its own initial breathing rate, final breathing rate, and duration. The Sleep Sensei will gradually transition from initial to final breathing rate during the set duration of the session. The defaults are:
Editing a profile
As mentioned above, each profile has default settings for initial breathing rate, final breathing rate, and duration. All of these parameters can be changed to suit your individual breathing style. To do so, choose a profile to edit and hold down button for 6 seconds. First the Sleep Sensei will begin coaching as normal, but as you continue to hold, the lights will flash 3 times, indicating that you are editing the initial breathing rate.
Initial Breathing Rate
The Sleep Sensei will now be showing a breathing pattern. This is the initial breathing rate. You can adjust this using the knob; turn the knob clockwise to make the breathing rate slower, and turn the knob counter-clockwise to make the breathing rate faster. Once you are satisfied with the initial breathing rate, hold down the button for 3 seconds until the lights flash 5 times.
Final Breathing Rate
The Sleep Sensei is now showing the final breathing rate. Adjust by the same method as above, turning clockwise to make the breathing rate slower, and counterclockwise to make it faster. Once you are satisfied, hold down the button for 3 seconds, or until the Sleep Sensei quickly “breathes” 3 times.
The final setting for each profile is the duration, which is set in increments of 10 minutes. The Sleep Sensei will flash a number of times and then pause; this indicates the session length in multiples of 10 minutes. So to determine the current session length setting, multiply this number of flashes by 10. Adjust the session length using the knob: each notch the knob is turned clockwise will increase the session by 10 minutes, and conversely turning the knob counter-clockwise will reduce the session time by 10 minutes per notch. You can choose session lengths from 10 to 90 minutes. Once you are satisfied with the session length, hold down the button for 3 seconds to save the profile and return to the profile selection menu (the Sleep Sensei quickly “breathes” 5 times.).

In order to save batteries, the Sleep Sensei will automatically time-out and enter sleep mode if no action has been taken on a menu in one minute. When the Sleep Sensei is turned back on, it will return to the profile selection menu.
Resetting to Defaults
If you would like to reset your Sleep Sensei’s profiles to their defaults, take out one of the batteries, hold down the button, and with the button still held, insert the battery. The Sleep Sensei will flash its lights rapidly 10 times to let you know that it has been reset. See the video above to watch the procedure.
